HoW college display for History Month

I will be taking the newroad parents display board and the new FFLAG banner to Heart of Worcestershire College on Friday 27th February for their History Month event.

Upcoming Worcestershire events in History Month

We have regular LGB&T Police Hate Crime Forum meetings throughout the year to which people are invited to see the police work in challenging hate crime.

Changing Attitude

The Changing Attitude group works towards full inclusion of LGB&T people in the life of the Anglican church. I shall be attending a book launch on Tuesday February 24th, ‘ Sexuality: the Inclusive Church Resource’ at Balsall Heath Church Centre 7.30pm.

LGB&T History Month 2015 in Bromsgrove and Redditch.

We got off to a good start with our Parents’ Support display stall at The Artrix on February 5th and we were at Redditch Library doing the same, on Saturday February 28th.

June meetings

A good meeting of New Road Worcestershire parents group (8 of us and a speaker) on June 30th. Stuart Bray of Core Assets Fostering, spoke to us about his journey as a gay adopter – now of three children. Core Assets have been in the Stonewall top 100 Diversity awards list for four successive years and this year won the top performer in the West Midlands for their commitment to lesbian, gay and bisexual employees and service users. A ‘new’ parent also attended and was greatly helped by listening to the journeys of other parents and sharing the difficult feelings. She was reassured that we all move on and learn to accept and value our children.

Activities to June 2014

We have continued to have regular meetings of the group and new people have joined. FFLAG were given a generous donation by the firm LUSH, which the trustees distributed around to each parents’ support group. Funded by this, I attended a London conference on Trans Issues, run by the Pink Therapy organisation. I am also intending to join a protest demonstration outside Redditch Town Hall next week. A local 81 year old is running a campaign against gays with the intention of standing on this issue as an independent councillor. He has already been expelled from UKIP!

Redditch celebrates LGBT History Month

Last Saturday February 1st LGBT History Month was launched in Worcestershire at Redditch Library with the ‘Living My Life – Celebrating the Lives of Trans People’ exhibition of photos and with stalls and information displays from partners in the LGBT Forum.

LGBT History Month Bromsgrove

Had a good evening on February 6th at the Artrix for LGBT History Month organised by Bromsgrove Equality and Diversity Officer and the LGBT Worcestershire Forum. Lots of display stalls including NewRoad parents. Some ‘new’ parents came and chatted. The Civic Head gave a welcoming address and the evening concluded with The Wizard of Oz!

Good meeting of parents last night – we did some planning for LGBT History Month displays on February 1st at Redditch library and February 6th at the Artrix in Bromsgrove.

On December 15, 1973, the American Psychiatric Association courageously decided to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). So it is today the 40th anniversary of  homosexuality being recognised by the APA as a normal variant of human sexuality, putting us on the path to giving gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender individuals the marital and employment protections they deserve.
